He also owner two other "black" night clubs of this era and would take me to visit them in the late 40's early 50's. I always remember him saying the most honest man I have known was a colored man, Andrew - In later years when I was sixteen and my Dad was in Las Vegas; he sent Andrew the money to buy me my first car. I think remembering this comment experience of visiting the Clubs - gave me a fair attitude towards people with different complexions and religions. He was also the owner of the TALK OF THE TOWN, the first air conditioned club in Houston - which was shut down for illegal gambling in the back room - the Mayor was there! Thanks for writing about my "Daddy" he was a wonderful father he took me to sit on Roy Rogers lap and I had my picture with Roy at the Rodeo. Later he took me to see Elvis twice -Dad never let me down. I now understand he was a "cool dude" and hip before his time. I remember his love and generosity to his family. I think it would be hilarious zipping through downtown and stopping off at Allen's landing and getting lunch somewhere would be even more hysterical. I knew I couldn't be the first person who has wanted to do this. But where you would be able to actually get the things in the water is the question. I think its amazing that you've been able to find such great articles to post. I found out about Sig Bryd not too long after moving to Houston. I enjoyed it so much that I am in the beginning stages of a Sig Bryd documentary. That is the reason why I am writing. I wanted to get some insight as to why you chose to find all of his articles and what the connection between you, Sig and Houston have? I think its great and really I'd like to pick your brain a little.

This is definitely real, I'm currently a graduate student at the university of Houston. I love your blog and follow it all the time! Great stuff. Just thought I'd give you an art news tip if you wanted to write about it: Our gallery's current artist, James Perez, has caused quite a stir with his series of paintings, the "Seven Deadly Sins" - very hardhitting images about current iconic figures like President Obama being crucified, The Pope being pleasured by an altar boy, Terrorism and the portrait of a Terrorist, and etc. The controversial nature of his work has already attracted the local Channel 2 news here, as well as the Houston Chronicle and Huffington Post.

Essentially, the meat of the story can be found in the following links (links to video news segments, local reactions, etc can all be found in the body of the blogs, but I can link them here, as well).

Watch the following news clip to get the gist of what's happening, and then go on to our blog(s), which are a wealth of info. Merry reporting!

Channel 2 report and video:
http://www.click2houston.com/news/27634058/detail.html#video

Info on the artist himself, with explanations of the paintings, his interesting bio about his past in a religious cult, and links to his website and etc:
http://presskitjamesperez.blogspot.com/

Info about the artist and the gallery itself:
http://cuetojamesartgallery.blogspot.com/

Thanks for your time!
